Global Challenge 2009 - racing day 1 PDF Print E-mail

On the first day of the event three races were finished in great sailing weather. Not so gusty as the practice day, 12 to 15 knots.

Todays top teams were: John Casey and crew, Robbie Daniels and crew, Gregg Goodall and crew, all on Vipers.
But those high in the rankings will have to battle to stay there. The Boca Ciega Bay playing field is known for its shifty winds, so only those reading the shifts well will keep their positions.

In the mid fleet positions mixed regulary and 2 of the 6 one up boats are in the middle of it. If the wind settles just a little they might still have a surprise.

For the record the McDonalds on their Falcon had boat issues and missed the two first races. In the third race they were mixing it up really good with the top teams. They are a force to look out for.

Unfortunately there also was a collision out on the water. G-Cat vs Taipan. Let's hope that both can continue racing tomorrow.

The weather is supposed to settle down the next couple of days, so we shall see what happens. It's going to get exciting as we move into the mid week racing.
