It is the intention of Formula 16 Catamaran Class that all F16 catamarans should race each other on a ‘first in wins’ basis irrespective of whether they are being sailed solo or with crew. In solo mode the sailplan shall be mainsail plus spinnaker. In 2 person mode the sailplan shall be mainsail, jib and spinnaker. In practice, we have found the two modes to be very level in performance terms.
Thus, although measurement based rating systems will differentiate between the two modes, the preferred choice of the F16 class is to sail both versions of the boat off the same rating in open class competition.
