The F16GC have been working in the background on the further development of the F16 class.

It has been a while since we provided an update on our work and so we would like to use this newsletter  to  let the faithful out there know where we are at.

There has  been some discussions regarding the uniformity of the F16  logo on the sail. While we would like to support this it this it seems a bit heavy handed to introduce a rule for this and so we will send a letter to the sailmakers, builders and  ask them to put the logo in the lowest panel of the main around 250 mm from the leech when they are making, or delivering a sail/boat. The people who already have a sail in use can put the logo in by themselves.  Please let us know if you need logos and we will provide you with a contact that can supply them.

As you all know the Global Challenge will be at Mumbles (UK) in 2008 and we have been contacted by other sailing clubs interested in running the event after 2008.  The USA and Malaysia are the current front runners for the event after Mumbles. There are further plans to organize an Asian Pacific title at the end of 2008 and/or the beginning of 2009. This is a good development  and shows that the Global Challenge and other regional championships are being  taken as serious championship events.

Also a hot item is the set up of National organizations in countries; if we as a class want to survive and thrive then we need NA’s started up where ever we have F16s sailing. We know that the US has already set up their NA and the UK and Australia are almost there. The Dutch Association should be in place by the spring of 2008. So we would like to ask all F16 sailors out there to look at the feasibility of getting a National Association off the ground and please contact the GC if we can be of any assistance.

We have already had discussions  about promoting the class and believe it would an  advantage  to have a PR committee to co-ordinate and help implement promotion of the class.   If there are people willing to help out by sitting on this committee please step forward by sending  an e- mail to the GC. Another issue is the International Bank account to be used by the treasurer. The treasurer has done a lot of work trying to open an account in Euros. Being located in Australia it is proving an impossible task. Anyone who can help get an account opened in Euros with minimal fees  please contact Phill. All help is welcome.

Paul Warren is the webmaster but he is very busy and finding time to update the page  has been challenging. Anyone who could help Paul out with the task please step forward as this is a very important task and we really we need  someone to back Paul up.

With friendly regards the Governing Council,

Hans Klok
