With five World Championships and a big F18 event, Travemuende will host the biggest catamaran regatta worldwide this year.
There will be five racing days and after the second day of racing, a show race event with the best 15 teams will be organized right at the shore side for the spectators and the world sailing press.
Getting prepared for the Worlds: register for the German Nationals on Sylt Island in the North of Germany. Germany's hot spot not only provides challenging sailing conditions with high tides, currents and big waves on the open sea. The hosting club has a long regatta history and will offer you professional services, a race committee with alot of catamaran experience and a superb location right on the beach. Besides, Sylt is Germany's party island with world class entertainment. As you can only reach this island by train or ferry, don't be horrified when looking at the transport rates. The club will support long distance travelers, so the official fares can be cut by half at least. Those of you, who will have to travel back between the German Nationals and the Worlds in Travemuende, can store their boats near Hamburg. Have a look at www.sylter-catamaran-club.de and register!

We are happy to announce that we received a US bid for the next F16 Worlds 2014.
This is the first bid for this major event. If we receive another bid before end of July, we will organize a vote to chose the location.
Please also let us know your bids for the F16 Worlds 2015.
At the end of July 2013 we will confirm the Worlds location for 2014 and we will propose the received bids for Worlds 2015.

Dear F16 sailors,
The F16GC is looking forward to recieve bids from Nations or clubs for the organization of major F16 events in 2014.
At this moment we did not received any offer but it will be highly preciated if there are clubs or people who are willing to do the organization for a major event.
We as class do need to know in time the dates for these type of major events to communicate this with the sailors.

The next F16 Worlds will take place July 20-27, 2013 and will be hosted by the Travemünde Yacht club, together with the Travemünde Woche. This will be a great venue with alot of sailors.
More info will follow later.
We ask the National Associations to present us their bids for European and World 2014 and 2015 events.

The F16 Europeans have just finished and it was a great event to be present at!
42 boats entered. Different brands present: Bimare, Blade, Cirrus, Falcon, Nacra and Viper, with good numbers of every design. Belgians, Dutch, German, French, Swiss,… a lot of nationalities fighting for the European title.
The level has increased a lot compared to last year with at least 3 teams campaigning for the Olympics of 2016.
Before the Europeans all participants could also participate in a local race, the Trofeo Restano, organised by neighour sailing club Domaso. The racing on Sunday would then been considered the practice race for the Europeans.

After the price giving the F16 Europeans got their official kick-of with some very nice Italian food and drinks. Great way to start the week.
We had a great week of sailing, with all kind of winds: from very light over moderate to quite heavy winds on the last day. Tom Phipps and Niki Boniface dominitad the pack and sailed themselves consistently to victory!

The F16GC is proud to let you all now that we have received the first bid for a major event next year. This is the first bid we recieved but to let everybody know that if a club or volunteers are planning to have also a major event for 2012 they should send in the bids before 30th September 2011. If the F16GC is recievig more then 1 bid we have to send a ballot out to the members to let them vote which of the bids will be there favor one.
Because of the time frame we have to have the bids in at latest on the mentioned time above.

German F16 event in October |

The first German event for F16 is called "Wies'n Regatta" it will also include the German F18 Nationals 2011 as well as other Catamaran classes and will take place on lake Ammersee a little south of Munich.
The notice of race is published at: www.scia-ammersee.de . A few F16 boats have already registered, so any more participants would be welcome. The races will start Saturday October, 1st and will be finished on Sunday afternoon.

This was a great event! Everybody had a very
good time, a lot of fun, met very cool people, had nice drinks and
dinners and above all we had some great sailing.
There were alot of nations present at this first F16 World Championship:
Australia, Belgium, Brazil, France, Italy, The Netherlands,
Switzerland, United Kingdom and United States!
We had several boat types all trying as hard to win this event:
AquaRaptor, Blade, Bimare, Falcon and Viper. There were a few one-up
sailors too, fantastic job done by them!
 
On Monday evening we had the country diner with some specialties of the
participating countries. The social program of this event was well worked out. We had the country
diner, an official dinner, a pasta party and some
cake with the price giving. Everyone enjoyed hanging out at the club.

We are now slightly less than one month from the event, and it is great pleasure to have already over 30 registered teams. The Bordeaux Maubuisson Sailing Club (CVB) is proud of welcoming the 2011 F16 World Championship.
Over the week of championship there will be of course alot of racing, starting every afternoon once the thermal breeze has settled. At this time of the year there is a usual 8/10 knots north/west at 2Pm moving left toward West to reach a usual 15/20 knots at 5Pm. This week-end the water had already a nice temperature of over 22°C.
It will be regatta times but also social and we will try our best to make it so friendly that you really happen to meet each others. Of course the center meeting point will be the Terrasse of the Club House and its Bar. Snacks, ice cream, soft drinks and Beer & Wine will be there available.
Social: as of Sunday evening we will start the social items:
- Welcoming Event, Countries Parade & Brunch on Sunday evening. Don't forget to bring & wear a country specific apparel !!!
- Country Diner on Monday evening Now that you have dressed specific, we want to know what your food and drink are so specific about. This will be a great sharing time.
- Tuesday evening will be serious times with the General Assembly Still bar will be opened
- Wednesday will be the Official Crew Diner Anne team will make sure that you remember your venue in Bordeaux Maubuisson,
- Thursday is Pasta PartyThe sailing Club will offer the Pasta & Dessert, Bar will be open but your drinks are also more than welcome.
Training & Racing :The details of the races will be provided in the Racing instructions.Full briefing with extended description will be provided.
The regatta sailing location is slightly North of the Sailing club. It can be viewed from the North Beach of the Club or even better if you bike along the lake on the bike path.We shall not start racing before the afternoon, so plenty of time to tune your boat in the morning.
Whatever will be your starting point, you will be coming via Bordeaux. The Bordeaux Maubuisson sailing club is located approx. 45min west of the Bordeaux ring. It would be great that as soon as you are aware of your estimated arrival date & time, you would notify us via email. When getting at the 'Domaine de Bombanne' gate, please only notify that you are attending to the F16 Worlds. You will be then handed a map showing your trailer parking location.If arriving during office hours please notify the front desk of the CVB of your arrival. This will allow a free of charge access to the'Domaine'.This area is Natura 2000 restricted so we do expect you to be conscious of your impact on mother Nature.
Due to the size of the sailing club, we have multiples parking area & access to water. In order to be as much comfortable for you, we have reserved an access restricted location with two ultra wide water access.Both are wind opposite, so there is always at least a fully secured launching area completely wave less. lease make sure to park your trailer in that area. Cars can be easily parked nearby.The measuring area will be right there, ... bar also close by. You will have the choice to remind under the shade of the pine trees or exposed to the sun.In both case it will be soft grounds, sand and/or pines leafs.

Update: November 29: new dates + preliminary event schedule!
Two time great news for the F16 class today!
First of all the class is now an official recognised ISAF class, again proving the stable growth of the class.
Secondly we can also announce the 2011 F16 world championships venue.
The world championships, organised by the freshly formed French class association, will be held from 23rd till 30th of July in Bordeaux. The Cercle de Voile de Bordedeaux is the hosting club, well-known for hosting other big championships in the past.

Hereby an update of how the event went.
On Friday July 16 the first measurements/checks were performed, with continuation on Saturday and a possibility on Sunday morning before the start of the practice race. On Friday evening there was a positive surprise for all the sailors, an event was sailed at the club next to AVAL-CDV and all F16’s where invited to join in this regatta without costs and a good price giving afterwards with food and drinks. This meant that we had a series of 5 races extra. Great. Thijs Visser won this small pre Europeans. Well done Thijs!
The official beginning of the F16 Europeans on Monday July 19 started with a short skippers meeting explaining the course and some practical details. One advantage of this venue is that wind only kicks in as from 1PM, so every racer had a relaxed morning and every day boats only started to go out at 12 o’clock to then have a daily start of the races at 1PM. Everyday there were 3 races scheduled, with each 3 laps.
The course was a classic triangle (upwind – spreader – gate) course.
