Latest News F16 Worlds USA
Tuesday, 08 April 2014

Ever wonder how badly you might get waxed by an Olympic Sailor?  Or maybe by a guy who was born when Franklin D. Roosevelt was President, who just happens to be sailing with a woman who may be older than your grandma.  Or a couple kids who are the defending USF-16 Champions, but still not out of high school? Well, if you’re coming to the F16 Worlds in Newport, RI in June, you’re soon to find out.

We’ve got a great fleet of 23 boats signed up already, stacked with talent…

Formula 16 Worlds 2014: Sailing festival in Newport/ Rhode Island
Thursday, 27 February 2014

Sailing Newport will host the 2014 Worlds of the International Formula 16 Class Association.

From June, 24th until Friday, 27th the class of the light and fast beach catamarans will race at one of the most exposed venues in sailing.

Although being a multi-generation catamaran, the Formula 16 boats have been the nursery of many crews sailing the Olympic Nacra 17 today. After Henri Demesmaeker was crowned the youngest World Champion ever apart from the optimist dinghy in Travemuende last year, let’s take a thorough look on young hotshots showing up in Newport, dropping their calling card for future F18 or Nacra 17 racing.

Registration is open for double-handed and singlehanded crews. Charter boats will be available.

Letter from the President
Monday, 23 December 2013
Dear Formula 16 Sailors,

The year after ISAF’s move towards the Nacra17 was a difficult one. The vote was followed

by a loss of some highly professional sailors, not any more promoting our mission of

supporting a fast and easy to handle catamaran. On the other hand, we don’t have to handle

an Olympic issue and thus can concentrate on the development of our class that did see

some highlights this year.

Henri Demesmaeker voted 2013 Catsailor of the Year
Thursday, 05 December 2013

CatSailingNews organised a poll to vote for CatSailor of the Year. Poll closed on Dec 1, 10:36PM Buenos Aires Time and Henry Demesmaeker beat US Young Guns Taylor Reiss & Mattew Whitehead (2013 F18 Youth World Champs) and Nr 1 Pro sailor of 2013, Billy Besson (2013 Nacra 17 & F18 World Champ). Henry got a WC of  his own sailing with 2X F18 WC Jeroen Van Leeuwen, together they managed to grab our Formula 16 Worlds. What is so special about Henry? Well, becoming WC at 12 Yrs old is a quite remarkable achievement. having Jeroen as crews was a super plus help, but Henry was the one helming at the nice windy conditions at Travemunde.

Check reports of the event at the website of CatSailingNews.

2013 F16 worlds
Sunday, 28 July 2013

The F16 class would like to thank first the German F16 organisation and the Lubecker Yacht Club for organising such a top event. We also want to thank Antoine, our Secretary, for all the work he has put into the class over the last years and to get the class where it is today.

F16 Worlds - NOR
Tuesday, 12 February 2013

The NOR for our F16 Worlds is now online at http://www.travemuender-woche.com/en/noticeofrace/index.html

With five World Championships and a big F18 event, Travemuende will host the biggest catamaran regatta worldwide this year.

There will be five racing days and after the second day of racing, a show race event with the best 15 teams will be organized right at the shore side for the spectators and the world sailing press.

Getting prepared for the Worlds: register for the German Nationals on Sylt Island in the North of Germany. Germany's hot spot not only provides challenging sailing conditions with high tides, currents and big waves on the open sea. The hosting club has a long regatta history and will offer you professional services, a race committee with alot of catamaran experience and a superb location right on the beach. Besides, Sylt is Germany's party island with world class entertainment. As you can only reach this island by train or ferry, don't be horrified when looking at the transport rates. The club will support long distance travelers, so the official fares can be cut by half at least. Those of you, who will have to travel back between the German Nationals and the Worlds in Travemuende,  can store their boats near Hamburg. Have a look at www.sylter-catamaran-club.de and register!

Tuesday, 14 August 2012

The F16 Europeans have just finished and it was a great event to be present at!

42 boats entered. Different brands present: Bimare, Blade, Cirrus, Falcon, Nacra and Viper, with good numbers of every design. Belgians, Dutch, German, French, Swiss,… a lot of nationalities fighting for the European title.

The level has increased a lot compared to last year with at least 3 teams campaigning for the Olympics of 2016.

Before the Europeans all participants could also participate in a local race, the Trofeo Restano, organised by neighour sailing club Domaso. The racing on Sunday would then been considered the practice race for the Europeans.

Falcon F16
Nacra F16
Cirrus Q F16
Viper F16

After the price giving the F16 Europeans got their official kick-of with some very nice Italian food and drinks. Great way to start the week.

We had a great week of sailing, with all kind of winds: from very light over moderate to quite heavy winds on the last day. Tom Phipps and Niki Boniface dominitad the pack and sailed themselves consistently to victory!
